mona lisa discussion questions
No I do not think Betty was happy actually she looked very very unhappy. She talked to her mother about how unhappy she felt but her mom did not believe in divorce. In this time many people looked down on people that would get a divorce. The roles of the woman in 1950 were very different from then and now they were taught to only take care of their house, kids, and husband. Woman only cooked, clean, and washed clothes. This is different from the view of Katherine Watson because she wants to show that woman can do more than just cook, clean, and take care of her family. She wanted to show that we are capable of doing things that are above and beyond.

It was pretty sad that Betty had to go through that since divorce was something that was not common and looked down on. It was also pretty sad that her own mother would not let her stay with her, instead she just wanted her to go home and deal with it.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Betty was not happy and it really reflected on her emotional state. Her mom was a factor, and probably why she rushed into the marriage in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI agree that betty wasn't happy because she had finally gotten what she had wanted but then it wasn't all that it was cracked up to be.
